Hiring from overseas can be beneficial when companies are unable to attract qualified employees because of a shortfall in the local labour market.
A company in Australia can hire a prospective employee from overseas with approval from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
There are a number of visa options to do this:
Temporary Business Long Stay Visa (subclass 457)
This visa is available for a period up to 4 years and requires a three-part application process:
- The company is required to gain approval as a sponsor
- The company nominates the employee for a position it needs to fill
- The employee applies for the Temporary Business Long Stay visa (subclass 457)
Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417)
If a prospective employee is eligible for, or has a valid Working Holiday Visa, then your company may not need to apply for sponsorship with DIAC. For more information please click here.
If you would like to sponsor an employee from overseas please visit here for more information.
