ATC is Australia’s premier Thoroughbred racing organisation with an exciting program of race meetings at Royal Randwick, Rosehill Gardens, Canterbury Park and Warwick Farm. We have a long and proud history of delivering exciting and entertaining Thoroughbred racing in the Sydney region, traditionally playing a leading role within the Industry.
Reporting to the GM – Security & Risk, this permanent full time position is to provide high quality management of race day / non-race day Mounted Security, and security stable operations based at Royal Randwick. The position is responsible for the delivery of exceptional management of horses, stables and adherence to ATC WHS Policies and Procedures. The Equine Security Manager performs the role of Mounted Security Team Leader for racedays and events. The Mounted Security team must consist of confident patrol horses and riders for practical working purposes. To achieve this there is a requirement for the Equine Security Manager to employ strategies for desensitising the horses to noise, crowds, and obstacles.

Candidates for this exciting and challenging role will need to meet the following criteria:
•Demonstrated high level of equine care / experience and riding ability
•Demonstrated experience in managing a stable of up to eight horses;
•Effective communication skills and experience in delivering riding instruction
•Integrity – must be able to demonstrate and maintain high ethical standards of conduct;
•Sound time and organisational skills with high attention to detail
•Ability to obtain a NSW Security Industry Licence Class 1AC and 2D
•Ability to obtain a NSW Truck Licence (Medium Ridged)

The duties of this role also includes the;
•Developing & maintaining the exercise routines of Horses – schooling (riding & lunging)
•Participation as an instructor on the Mounted Security Patrol Courses
•Re-education of Thoroughbreds to an adequate level as a security mounts
•Rotation of horses – transporting to and from spelling paddocks to stable complex
•Effectively assessing potential security horses and riders
•Overseeing stable / stable staff and training new employees
•Developing & maintaining feed & cleaning schedules
•Ordering supplies & feed
•Maintaining equipment, supply & feed inventory
•Dispensing & applying prescribed medications and treatments
•Available for emergency after-hours
•Managing disposal of waste
•Arranging and overseeing vet visits, worming & shots
•Overseeing farrier scheduling & visits
•Development and maintenance the following records:
a)Feeding charts
b)Maintenance of records of training
b)Equine health records
c)Equine progress reports in the areas of grooming, feeding, vices, and ground manners
d)Inventory and requisitions
e)General maintenance reports

A tertiary qualification in Equine studies (or related discipline) and previous experience in a mounted unit (police or military) is desirable.
